Understanding the layout

Closer ruling gives more writing positions but leaves less room between neighboring lines. Small handwriting can work well when it remains clear and unhurried. Use stronger paragraph separation or a separate heading line to avoid a page that becomes visually dense. A different line color may help, but contrast cannot compensate for cramped letter placement.

Using the sheet

Start with the preset when its dimensions match the task, then change only the settings you actually need. The parent generator linked below explains the wider choice of layouts. Keeping a note of your final settings makes it easier to create another matching sheet later.

Choosing the settings

Select the paper that is physically loaded in your printer. Download the PDF for a dimensioned print and choose Actual size or 100%, rather than Fit. The on screen preview is reduced to fit the browser and is not an actual size measurement. SVG keeps editable vector outlines; PNG is useful when an image file is required.

A practical example

Keep 6.35 mm spacing and download the PDF. Write a few lines at your normal size, including letters with ascenders and descenders. Switch to a wider preset if neighboring lines touch.

Before you print

Narrow ruling is not inherently more efficient for every writer. Legibility and comfort should decide whether it is suitable.
