Understanding the layout

A grand staff system combines two five line staves. It is useful when parts must be read together, such as the right and left hands of a piano arrangement. The space between the pair belongs to that system, while the larger gap between systems separates successive sections of the music. Keeping those relationships clear is more useful than simply placing many independent staves on a page.

Using the sheet

Add a title and the clefs needed for the piece before entering notes. Sketch phrase lengths lightly so the last measure of a line does not become crowded. For a beginner exercise, use fewer systems with larger line spacing. If ledger lines or dynamics fill the space between the two staves, move to a more spacious configuration rather than forcing every marking into the same narrow band.

Choosing the settings

Systems per page counts pairs, not individual staves. Staff / string spacing controls the distance between lines. Blank measures can divide the writing area evenly without implying a time signature. Clefs can be left blank for a custom exercise or printed in the standard paired arrangement. An overfull configuration reports that fewer systems or smaller spacing are needed.

A practical example

Choose A4 and set Systems per page to 4. Keep the initial line spacing and no bar lines. Download an SVG. You should see four paired systems, each containing two sets of five horizontal lines, rather than four unrelated individual staves.

Before you print

This is blank manuscript paper, not a score editor. Equal measure guides do not guarantee that actual notes will fit equally in each bar. Printed clefs are references; key and time signatures remain yours to add.
