Understanding the layout

Pixel art depends on deliberate placement of discrete cells. A printed grid makes those choices visible without requiring a drawing program. The chart is an enlarged model: a 5 mm square might represent one pixel in the final digital image, not a 5 mm screen element. A design’s actual resolution comes from the number of cells you use across and down.

Using the sheet

Mark a fixed drawing boundary, such as sixteen cells by sixteen cells, before coloring. Choose a limited set of colors or symbols so the design remains coherent when copied into a digital editor. Start with the silhouette, then add interior detail. Count cells along curves rather than trying to draw smooth lines between them; the stepped outline is part of the design language.

Choosing the settings

Spacing / size controls how large the planning squares appear on paper. Bold grid every helps divide the design into convenient groups. Edge counts can help locate a cell when recreating the image digitally. Diagonal guides are optional and do not create anti aliasing or additional pixel positions.

A practical example

Choose 5 mm spacing and a bold grid every eight cells. Download a PDF, then mark a sixteen by sixteen cell drawing area. That area represents a 16 by 16 pixel design, while its planning dimensions on paper are 80 by 80 mm.

Before you print

This generator provides blank paper rather than a painting interface or image converter. It does not export your hand colored cells as a sprite. Photographing a filled chart also does not automatically reconstruct exact digital pixel colors.
