Understanding the layout

Panel arrangement shapes the reading rhythm of a comic. Even panels create a regular sequence, while a wide first panel can establish a setting or introduce a moment that needs more visual room. The gutters between panels separate images; they are not part of the drawing area. Decide the reading direction and page order before filling in the artwork.

Using the sheet

Write a short outline of what changes from one panel to the next. Place the essential action first, then leave enough space for speech and captions. A panel should not become so crowded that the reader must guess the order of balloons. For a classroom activity, use a small panel count and ask learners to show a beginning, a problem and a resolution.

Choosing the settings

Columns and Rows define the basic panel arrangement. Panel layout selects Even panels or Wide first panel. In the wide opening layout, the first row becomes one panel across the available width, while later rows retain their columns. Paper orientation changes the overall storytelling canvas without adding artwork or text.

A practical example

Choose A4, two columns and three rows, then select Wide first panel. Download the SVG. The page should contain one wide opening panel followed by two rows of two panels, for five panels in total. Number them lightly before starting the story.

Before you print

This generator creates blank panels only. It does not create characters, draw speech balloons or determine reading order for every language. Printed panel boundaries are not bleed or trim specifications for a commercial publisher.
