Understanding the layout

The headings are Station, BS, IS, FS, HI, Level and Remarks. Their abbreviations correspond to a common height of instrument style record, but the blank layout does not choose or perform a surveying method. Establish the datum, units and observation convention before entering readings. A field sheet must preserve enough context that another person can understand what was observed and how later calculations were made.

Using the sheet

Add the job or location and date before taking notes. Keep station identifiers consistent with the rest of the exercise. Record observations clearly and separate them from calculated values. Note unusual conditions or repeated readings in the remarks area using the procedure required by your course or organization. Check a practice record against the taught method before relying on the form in the field.

Choosing the settings

Sheet title identifies the exercise or job. Writing row height sets the room for each record. The seven columns remain distinct, with more width for remarks than for a short numeric reading. Paper orientation can provide wider writing space, but fewer vertical rows will fit on a landscape sheet.

A practical example

Choose A4 and the title Leveling practice, leaving 8 mm rows. Download the PDF and inspect the seven headings. Use a known classroom dataset and record its station identifiers and readings, then calculate and verify levels independently of the generator.

Before you print

The tool does not compute elevations, check a closure or validate survey accuracy. It is not a substitute for an approved field book or professional procedure. Never infer that a result is correct merely because it appears in a labeled column.
