Understanding the layout

The layout keeps a Date and Description area followed by amount columns. The initial columns include Debit and Credit, with additional amount headings when more columns are requested. A column name is only a label; it does not classify a transaction correctly or calculate a balance. Record the currency, account and period clearly so a sheet remains understandable when filed separately.

Using the sheet

Choose the purpose of the ledger before entering amounts. Keep descriptions specific enough to identify the corresponding record and use a consistent date convention. Leave room for references and corrections according to the method you follow. For teaching, work through a small example whose entries can be checked independently rather than treating a neatly printed table as evidence of correct accounting.

Choosing the settings

Columns controls the total table count, including Date and Description. Adding amount columns makes each one narrower. Writing row height trades row count for handwriting space, and Sheet title identifies the account or exercise. Paper size and orientation should leave enough room for both descriptions and legible amounts.

A practical example

Choose A4, six columns and the title Practice ledger. Keep 8 mm rows and download a PDF. The sheet should have the description area and four amount columns after Date and Description. Enter a small verified classroom example and check the arithmetic separately.
