Understanding the layout

The usual ukulele tab layout uses one line for each string. The line order is a notation convention, not a guarantee that pitches rise or fall in the same order; reentrant tunings make that distinction particularly important. Write the tuning you are using beside the first system. A fret number belongs on a specific string line, and rhythm needs its own notation or a clear reference to the tune.

Using the sheet

Start with a short phrase so the fret numbers and technique marks remain legible. Add chord names above the relevant places when they help the reader. Keep a separate practice note for fingering decisions rather than crowding every instruction between tab lines. A combined staff and tab page can connect the written melody with its string positions when that is part of the lesson.

Choosing the settings

The default is four strings. Systems per page controls the number of repeated tab groups, and Staff / string spacing controls the gap between lines. Blank measures is optional. Because a combined staff layout requires more height, select fewer systems when adding notation above the tab.

A practical example

Choose A4 and keep four strings. Set Systems per page to five and download the PDF. Count four lines in each tab group, then label your tuning and enter the fret numbers for a short phrase. Check that there is enough room above the groups for any chord symbols.

Before you print

The tool does not choose a tuning, transpose a melody or verify fingerings. It creates a reusable notation layout. Do not use the printed line distances as measurements for an instrument.
