Understanding the layout

An index card size describes the final cut rectangle, not the paper on which several cards are printed. This generator includes 3 by 5 inch, 4 by 6 inch and A7 options. A 3 by 5 inch card measures 76.2 by 127 mm. The arrangement may put its long edge horizontally, but the two dimensions remain the same. Space between cards makes it easier to cut each outline independently.

Using the sheet

Choose the card size that fits the intended box, binder or learning activity. Print one sample and measure it before preparing a stack. Use suitable paper stock that your printer can handle, then cut with a straightedge or appropriate cutter. For a study set, put one idea on each card and leave room for additions instead of filling every line immediately.

Choosing the settings

Card size selects the physical rectangle. Card ruling chooses lined or blank interiors. Paper size and orientation determine how many complete cards fit; the generator does not shrink them to squeeze in an extra row. A page that cannot hold even one selected card produces a clear fit error.

A practical example

Choose A4 portrait paper and 3 x 5 inch cards with Lined ruling. Download the SVG. The arrangement should contain three cards, each 127 mm wide and 76.2 mm high. Print at 100% and measure one outline before cutting.

Before you print

The sheets are single sided and do not calculate front to back registration for duplex printing. A paper outline is not a cutting machine file with material specific allowances. Printer scaling changes the final card size.
