Understanding the layout

A storyboard separates visual planning into successive frames. The important information is not polished drawing but what the viewer sees, how the scene changes and what must be communicated. Consistent frame proportions help you think about composition for the intended screen. A 16:9 frame and a square frame offer different horizontal space, even when they occupy a similar part of the printed page.

Using the sheet

Give each frame a clear purpose. Sketch the main subject position, then use the notes for action, dialogue, camera movement or timing. Keep shot numbers and scene names consistent so pages can be rearranged without losing their order. Use fewer panels when a complicated frame needs more drawing room rather than forcing detailed artwork into very small boxes.

Choosing the settings

Frame ratio selects 16:9, 4:3 or Square. Columns and Rows determine how many frames are requested. Note lines per frame reserves writing space below each image. The generator keeps frame proportions intact; an overfull layout reports an error instead of stretching the frames or silently removing notes.

A practical example

Choose A4 with two columns, three rows, 16:9 frames and two note lines. Download the PDF. You should have six proportionate frames with their own writing areas. Use the first three for a beginning, action and result, and leave the others for alternative shots.

Before you print

The tool makes blank planning panels. It does not generate images, animate a sequence or estimate production costs. Equal panels do not imply equal shot duration; write timing information when it matters.
