Understanding the layout

Lettering benefits from a clear baseline and a consistent body region. The guide system separates the lowercase body from the spaces for taller and descending strokes. Slant guides provide a common direction, while the horizontal bands help keep repeated forms at a consistent height. The paper does not determine letter width, spacing or the final character style; those remain part of the lettering exercise.

Using the sheet

Plan the word length lightly before committing to heavy strokes. Leave room for the widest letters and for the spaces between words. Draw a short sample to check that the chosen body height suits the pen and intended heading size. For upright lettering, treat the slant as an optional construction aid rather than forcing a style that is meant to stay vertical.

Choosing the settings

X height controls the body region and the size of each repeated band. Slant angle is measured from the horizontal baseline. Larger guides leave fewer rows on a page but can be easier for practicing shape. Choose the paper and orientation before planning a long heading so the available line length is clear.

A practical example

Set X height to 5 mm and Slant angle to 55 degrees. Download the SVG and lightly sketch a short heading within one band. Check the body height across repeated letters before adjusting the spaces between them. The tool provides guides, not the heading itself.

Before you print

This generator does not typeset words, suggest kerning or produce a logo. It is a blank construction layout. For printed model lettering to trace, use the handwriting or cursive worksheet tools instead.
