Compare two paper formats using a shared scale, physical dimensions and a pixel reference at a chosen DPI. The overlay makes differences between formats such as A4 and Letter easier to see than a list of numbers alone.

Understanding the layout

Paper size is a physical width and height. Pixel dimensions require an additional resolution value, because the same sheet can be represented by many different raster image sizes. The comparison normalizes the formats into portrait orientation and draws them at one common scale. Large formats may be reduced to fit the comparison page, with that scale explicitly printed above the overlay.

Using the sheet

Choose the format required by the printer or document destination, then compare it with the paper you already have. Notice that a similar width does not imply the same height or aspect ratio. Use the physical dimension labels for document setup and the DPI reference for raster planning. Do not measure the reduced overlay and assume it is a full size cutting pattern.

Choosing the settings

First format and Second format choose the compared sheets. Pixel reference DPI changes the calculated pixel counts, not the physical paper dimensions or the comparison PDF size. The general Paper controls choose the sheet on which the comparison itself is printed. The two format outlines retain the same relative scale.

A practical example

Keep A4 and Letter as the compared formats and select a 300 DPI reference. The labels should show A4 as 210 by 297 mm and Letter as 215.9 by 279.4 mm. Download the PDF and read the stated overlay scale before making any physical comparison.

Before you print

This is a comparison and conversion reference, not a driver configuration utility. Rounded pixel counts are raster approximations. The overlay is not guaranteed to be actual size because it must leave room for its explanatory legend.

Why is the paper outline smaller than the paper itself?

The comparison fits both formats and their labels on one sheet. The common drawing scale is disclosed above the overlay.
